SUMMARY:  Reading Memorial High School has an immediate opening for a qualified 1.0 FTE long-term substitute math teacher, and the end date is the last day of school in June 2019. This is a temporary position and is not eligible for benefits. The position consists of two classes: Strong College Prep Geometry (two sections) and Honors Precalculus (three sections). The Classroom Teacher will help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their education; to create a program of study and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to become successful individuals, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervises the classroom and students.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of baccalaureate degree, master’s degree preferred.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must possess valid Massachusetts teacher licensure appropriate for subject area to be taught.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about to provide services and may be required to occasionally traverse throughout the school building. The employee must also often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as handwritten or printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and other staff members in person and on the telephone. In the classroom, the employee must be able to see and hear on a continuous basis in order to ensure the safety of students as well as speak frequently to provide instruction. On rare occasions, it may be necessary to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students, parents, and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students. While the majority of the work day is spent inside, the employee must spend time outdoors for fire drills and/or special activities.
